The Art of Storytelling

The theatre is a place that offers more than just a chance to perform. It means community and lasting friendships as you dive into the trenches of creating a story together. It draws out creative abilities, demands a safe place to trust each other, and inspires everyone to offer their best. It also offers opportunity to cultivate empathy while influencing and shaping culture. Looking at life through the lens of another is a meaningful act for both theatre creators and audiences. People can walk out of the theatre asking questions or having experienced the joy and sorrow that comes with community and connection. It is a unique form of storytelling that is equally generous and demanding.

What started as performing “shows” with her cousins for their parents quickly shifted when Heather discovered Drama in High School. Her school did not have an official program but with the support and guidance of a couple teachers and the local community theatre, Heather and a few friends got one started. They performed shows at their school but also took them on tour.

Heather went on to study Theatre at Rosebud School of the Arts. Later moving to Calgary, she developed the role of Creative Arts Director at Foothills Alliance Church. From performance she moved into directing and producing large scale productions. In recent years she has expanded her professional credits, directing with Calgary theatre companies like Storybook Theatre, FireEXIT Theatre, Youth Singers of Calgary and HeARTbeat Theatre Productions.
