About

Heather Laubenstein is a visual and theatre artist, educator, and freelance director who trained at Rosebud School of the Arts and worked as the Theatre Arts Associate at Youth Singers of Calgary. She teaches with various schools and organizations, most recently Secondary Drama and creating/directing devised work at Airdrie Christian Academy. She directed Kodachrome and Marion Bridge for Fire Exit Theatre, The Secret of Castle Alphabet (HeARTbeat Theatre Productions) which toured across North America, as well as the follow up production, Something’s Rotten at Castle Alphabet. She assistant directed The Giver and The NeverEnding Story with Storybook Theatre. Her directing project This Random World had been rescheduled for Fire Exit Theatre’s 2021 season two times during the time of covid. Heather chose to step back from that project when it was rescheduled for a third time into 2022. She decided then to take on the role of Creative Director and Sr. Director of Environments at FAC Calgary.

As a visual artist, Heather discovered her love for painting about 13 years ago and creates or collaborates with a range of styles, but loves to live in the world of abstract with acrylics, ink, resin, and reclaimed wood. She has shown work in various art shows, theatre productions, retailers and commissions. As a testimony to her belief in relationship and the impact of storytelling across all mediums, she helmed the mammoth art project The Story for Foothills Alliance Church, which led a team of 12 artists (over a 9 month period) in creating 31 large scale paintings to celebrate the arts as a medium to facilitate worship and to provide opportunities for visual meditations on truth.
